Through my experiences at Casa Marianella, I have come to understand the power of compassion, empathy, and support in creating positive change. My journey in public health began in my Freshman year of high school, when I started volunteering at Casa Marianella at the age of 14. It is a shelter for immigrant women and children. I saw firsthand the impact of trauma and stress on the children's young lives, and I knew I wanted to help. By teaching them piano, I aimed to provide an outlet for their emotions and a sense of control in a chaotic world. This experience taught me the importance of addressing the social determinants of health, such as stress and trauma, in promoting overall well-being.
